About
Andrรฉ U. lives in Berlin. Heโs a choreographer and sexological bodyworker, working at the intersection of dance, somatics, intimacy, pleasure and social healing. Andrรฉ develops body-based practices that center consent, vulnerability, erotic and emotional expression as both choreographic tools and social healing strategies to unlearn conditionings.
His work unfolds in group performances, workshops, one-on-one sessions, mentoring, s3x-positive and queer events - often held in dance settings and body-celebrating contexts. Across all formats, he cultivates and advocates for environments grounded in care, slowness, support systems and sustainable and safer working conditions within the dance landscape. With a masterโs in Solo/Dance/Authorship from HZT Berlin (2015), he consistently prioritize collective authorship over solo creation. His performances emphasize spaces of sharing over display, creating permeable membranes between performers and audience.
In 2022, Andrรฉ completed his training and certification as a Sexological Bodyworker. What drew him to this field was the combination of verbal communication and hands-on work, approached from a desire to expand his horizons within his erotic-, spiritual-, and emotional body. Heโs a cis, white, neurodivergent and queer person. Born in 1983 in Lisbon, he grew up in the suburbs with his mum and older brother after his parents divorced before he turned one.
His practice is rooted in envisioning the studio space as a laboratory to rethink human relations from a non-normative and queer perspective - a space where political activism, social healing and artistic inquiry intersect โ a space to create new social relationships.
With a strong investment in individual processes as inherently collective, his work embraces the singularities of each person and their interests as integral to shared experimentation. It is grounded in a desire to negotiate with others, practicing shared autonomy as an exercise in alterity, and approaching gathering and sharing as รฆffective, performative, and political acts. Through a series of (choreographic) interventions involving collective practices - playfulness, rituals, repair, and celebration - the studio becomes a space for both reflection and embodied transformation.
Recent works include รffective Choreography (2022โ2025), A hole the size of your touch (2021), Fire Starter (2019), Burn Time (2018-2025), the gathering/event Pool of Emotions (2019-2025) and Pleasure Circle (2024-2025). He has presented work across Europe and Asia, among others, at Venues such Radialsystem, Halle am Berghain, Teatro Sรฃo Luiz, Serralves Museum, Dance House Lefkosia, Tanzhaus NRW, De Studio, Norrlandsoperan, Grec Festival, and Tanzbiennale Heidelberg.
He received the Tanzpraxis grant (2022/23) and the Pina Bausch Fellowship (2023), assisting the training program โNormโ created by choreographer Diana Niepce, a program designed for disabled and non-disabled artists. In 2021, Uerba took part in Re-Think (Accessibility & Sustainable Mobility), a year-long program supported by the Swedish Institute and Norrlandsoperan.
As a performer, he has worked with artists such as Tino Sehgal (This is so Contemporary), Antonija Livingstone (Male Breast Feeding), Clรฉment Layes (The Eternal Return), Alexandra Pirici (Aggregate), Naufus Ramรญrez-Figueroa (The Print of Sleep), and with Ana Borralho & Joรฃo Galante, where he started as a performer (Sexy MF) and later as a group coordinator in the project Atlas, a project with 100 people on stage (2012-2016).
In 2024, he led the five-day workshop Space Weavers at Casa da Danรงa. In 2023, he facilitated Undisguised Matter as part of the Theater Treffen โ International Forum at the Martin-Gropius-Bau (Berlin) and within the Dance and Mediation program at the University of Music and Dance Cologne (ZZT).
Central to his practice is the desire to generate spaces, encounters, and experiences that challenge and expand prevailing models of art consumption, extending artistic engagement beyond institutional frameworks such as the theater and into everyday life. By integrating methodologies from the performing arts and holistic disciplines, his work facilitates embodied encounters that cultivate mind-body connection, thereby foregrounding the affective and transformative capacities of art beyond its visual dimension.
